Broomfield Breast Cancer Boot Camp

Westminster, CO May 18th 2010 Breast Cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women. There are several organizations out there, such as the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and many more, that put on weekend long events where the entire country, regions, states, counties, and towns, can gather together to raise money and find a cure for breast cancer.

Local martial arts expert and certified personal trainer, Javier Lozano, Jr. is the owner and chief instructor at The Dojo of Karate & Fitness in Westminster, and plans on hosting their 1st Inaugural Breast Cancer Boot Camp on June 12th, 2010.

Their goal is to raise over $3,000 and donate the funds to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

However, Coach Lozano plans on approaching this fundraiser a little different.

He wants to get all of his martial arts and fitness members involved too, even though some of the students may be too young to train in a boot camp session.

His plan of attack? pink karate belts.

Coach Lozano says, We will be selling pink karate belts to students for them to wear during the week of June 7th to June 12th during their martial arts classes. This way, they can show their support in finding a cure for breast cancer. When we brought up the concept a couple of months ago, students were extremely excited about the idea, and couldnt wait to signup.

The pink martial arts belts will be on sale for purchase at $15 per belt, with approximately $10 of the proceeds going to the Avon Walk For Breast Cancer.

Than, on Saturday, June 12th from 9:30am to 10:30am The Dojo of Karate & Fitness will be hosting the official Breast Cancer Boot Camp. A 1-hour boot camp session where participants will have an opportunity to workout in the popular fitness boot camp class.

Their boot camps really focus on variety.

When someone asks what a typical boot camp consists of, I sort of tell them we do not have a normal routine or workout says Coach Lozano. Now if they want to know what people are saying about our programs and how they feel after the workout, the best example is that they leave feeling like jelly, sweating like pigs, and hurting while having a big smile on their face.

The Broomfield Fitness Boot Camp, as its known by locals, train with a variety of exercise equipment. This way, it keeps the workouts interesting, and the athletes on their toes.

For instance, they use resistance bands instead of dumb-bells because it becomes more difficult to control the bands. There is resistance on both the pushing / pulling motion, as well as the retrieving motion.

In addition, Coach Lozano teaches them how to use sandbags. Its an unorthodox way of training because the sand will shift in all different ways, making it difficult to maintain control. This forces athletes to use their stabilizer muscles too.

Plus, I tell them they can put on their resume that they are professional sandbag movers, incase an employer is trying to set apart candidates says Lozano jokingly.

And, the ever so kettlebells are another piece of equipment they train with too. Kettlebells are beginning to gain popularity because of its functional type movement, strength and cardio exercise, and great results athletes are gaining.

After the Breast Cancer Boot Camp, Coach Lozano invited a local chiropractor from Countryside Health and Wellness, to discuss ways to prevent breast cancer from diet and nutrition, to physical fitness and exercise.

This will be a 30 minute educational class, in order to teach all of the participants on how they can help prevent breast cancer.

The cost to participate in the Breast Cancer Boot is only $30 per participant with approximately $20 of the proceeds going towards the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

And, if you decide to signup for the Breast Cancer Boot Camp, than Coach Lozano will apply a $30 discount to your 1st month of training.

This is a great way to get introduced into the Broomfield Fitness Boot Camp.

Gun Cabinets: Protecting America's Treasures

Since the pioneer days, firearms have been an important part of the American tradition. The importance of this tradition can even be seen in the nation's most important document, The Constitution. Serious gun collectors can boast collections dating back hundreds of years. These weapons are not only valuable commodities; they are representative of an integral part of the nation's history. Whether you are one of these dedicated collectors or just an average American with a red blooded love for firearms, gun cabinets are the only foolproof way to ensure your prized possessions remain safe and secure.

To own an antique firearm is to own a piece of American history. These items are often valued as high as a piece of art. In some ways, they are like art. Many of these pieces of Americana are beautifully crafted with ornate decorations and carvings. Some of these classic works of American weaponry are hand made, making them highly valuable.

While many of these firearms are highly valuable from a monetary standpoint, there are still many more that contain a value that extends beyond the reach of anyone's wallet. These weapons are those passed down from generation to generation. Although they likely possess a high dollar value, the sentiment of family lineage is far more important to their owners. These proud owners not only hold a piece of American history, they hold a tangible piece of their own family history. To them, the value of family is far more important than the amount of money the weapons might be worth.

Then, there are also the newly purchased guns. Firearms are by no means cheap. It is an expensive hobby to protect America's right to bear arms. For those who enjoy a passion for hunting, there is a lot of money shelled out to continue that passion. A good quality hunting rifle is just like a good quality pick up truck. You want to spend a little extra money to ensure your truck will last a lifetime and a rifle is no different. Passionate hunters will spend the extra money to get the best equipment possible. Not only is it worth it for the next hunt, it is an item that will eventually be passed along to the next generation and become and heirloom of its own.

Knowing the importance of these firearms, it makes no sense not to ensure their utmost protection. If one is willing to spend the money on the weapon itself, they should be ready to spend a little extra on secure gun cabinets. Valuable guns can provide a hot target for criminals. An heirloom gun hanging on the living room wall acts just like a bulls eye for a burglar. They will hone in on their prey and strike as soon as you turn your back. However, gun cabinets are not only valuable protectors against burglars; they will also keep your firearms out of harm's way in the event of a fire.

It is never a good idea to leave important things to fate. Fate can, unfortunately, be quite cruel at times. When you least suspect it, the unexpected will often occur, leaving you vulnerable. When it comes to pieces of American history, family heirlooms, or personally valued sport rifles, one cannot be too careful. You would never just leave your money or jewelry lying around the house, and your firearms should be no different. With high resistance to heat and unbreakable codes, your firearms will remain where they belong, in your gun cabinets and in your possession.

Bonding New Pet Rabbits

Rabbits are very territorial animals. Therefore, there can sometimes be conflicts when introducing new pet rabbits to each other. This article will briefly summarize why there are problems when introducing new pet rabbits to a living environment, and attempt to explain how you can potentially remedy the situation.

Wild rabbits have very territorial behaviors that have been handed down to our domesticated rabbit friends. In the wild, male rabbits will defend a fairly large area that he marks using various techniques including the dropping of scented pellets, chin marking, and digging. A wild female rabbit will defend a smaller area usually localized to her nest. Domestic rabbits can exhibit very similar behaviors and it is important to keep this in mind when you are about to introduce new rabbits to each other.

The optimal way to introduce new rabbits is to do it when they are young. If this is not possible, however, then you will want to introduce them in a neutral space. This means their first meeting should be in a location that doesn't belong to either of them. If they instantly display affectionate behavior towards each other such as nuzzling and maintaining a close proximity, then you are in luck and your rabbits have bonded quickly and will probably need no further supervision.

If they are tentative, weary, or display aggression towards one another, further action on your part will be required. You will need to put them in new situations, some slightly stressful (like taking them to a new location) where they can bond with each other. Do not allow them to fight; if they fight they will remember it for a long time and harbor negative feelings. Do encourage them to be near each other.

You will have to spend some time each day working with your rabbits until they cease showing signs of weariness or aggression towards each other. Being able to properly bond rabbits is a highly useful skill should you ever need to introduce a new rabbit to a rabbit you already have. It is also useful because once properly bonded, rabbits love to have the stimulation and company that a new companion provides.
